'Symmetrica 08', the world of illusions.
Symmetry has been a fascinating phenomenon capturing the minds of humans. It is a unifying principle of geometry, seen in nature, used in mathematics, chemistry, biology and other sciences to architecture, religious symbols, music, arts, crafts and decoration. It evokes our mystical sense of perceiving patterns. In design, symmetry exposes us to the ideas of grids, repetition, rhythm, composition, balance, pattern, texture, detail and visual interest. A designer learns from the formations and constructs of this wonderful order and visually interesting distribution of elements.
'Symmetrica 08' is an exhibition showcasing the beauty and use of Symmetry in design and sciences. The idea is to give a real flavor of the fun of Symmetry and patterns in an experiential display involving graphical, pictorial, typographical, audio, video displays. 'Symmetrica 08' is a collection of wild and wonderful Symmetrical patterns from nature, age-old cultures, objects and media to today's computing world. Illustrating with visually rich examples ranging from Indian Saris, Visuals, Illusions, Kaleidoscopic peeps, students exercises, objects and multimedia, activities for children,it aims to recapture the magic of a symmetrical creation.
‘Symmetrica 08’ will aim in entertaining amateur, kids and students and will try to equally satisfy an expert in the field. The exhibition is designed by JSID 2nd year students as a part of their course "Design and Creativity". It has involved careful research, collection of material and display design in a constrained budget. The coursed aimed at exposing to the techniques and methods of involving creativity in design as a conscious effort, which can be learnt by students of design. We decided to end the course with an exhibition that will expose the students to a realistic scenario of exhibition design. Students will learn to collect interesting content, express visually, install and detail, work out circulation and designing promotion many of the qualities which an interior designer of tomorrow should posses.
